Canada immigration points — score, cutoffs, pathways
Northway estimates your CRS from published IRCC rules and compares it with real draw cutoffs and provincial signals — self-assessment information, not a decision about your case.
Express Entry ranks candidates with the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS, out of 1200). Points come from age, education, language, Canadian and foreign work, skill transferability and additional factors. Whether a spouse accompanies you changes how the grid is scored.
Besides the total, federal programs (FSW, CEC, FST) each have eligibility gates; FSW also uses a 67-point selection grid that many simple tools skip. Northway surfaces both eligibility and a CRS breakdown.
Historical cutoffs come from IRCC publications so you can see where recent lines sat — not a forecast of the next round. Quebec Arrima uses a separate scale; never compare those absolute scores with federal CRS.
Cutoffs and rule explanations are based on published IRCC / provincial sources. Topic copy refreshed 2026.
Common questions
- Is a CRS calculator the same as an EE score tool?
- In practice yes for pool ranking. CRS is the Express Entry ranking score. Northway’s assessment page breaks CRS down the way IRCC factors it and also checks FSW, CEC and FST eligibility.
- Is my result an official decision?
- No. Outputs are self-assessment estimates to orient you. Binding decisions are made only by IRCC and the relevant provincial or Quebec authorities.
- Do I need a passport or SIN?
- No. Northway collects ranges and general profile fields only — never passport numbers, SIN or a full date of birth. Timeline features may optionally collect birth year-month only.
- Can I calculate without signing up?
- Yes. You can see an estimate in about two minutes. Sign-in is only for saving a profile and optional alerts.
